In a tightly contested final Cobra took down the hot seat man Larry 300 to 222 in the 2020 Straight Pool World Championship. With enough firepower in both players for triple digits runs nothing was guaranteed for either player. With Larry up 221 to 109, Larry left a ball short of the pocket fouling for a score of 220 to 109. Cobra then proceeded to run a 123 to lead 232 to 220. Larry made a ball, got a little straight on the break ball but was able to get the rack spread leaving a cut up the rail on the 14 that ended up hitting the side pocket tit . Cobra then ran 68 and out. Larry made a couple mistakes and Cobra was able to take advantage to win the championship.
In a first for a VP4 championship the pockets were set to club width, which is really tournament width for Straight Pool in real life. Players found they could run more balls but it was not as easy as many thought it would be, with cue ball movement and 14:1 knowledge at a premium.
High run of the tournament was by SemiPro at 179 and there were four players with runs over 100.
Congrats to Cobra on the win.
