10 Ball is a call shot game, which means you have to assign the target ball and target pocket to go.

Generally we only call it when the shot is unobvious, but its better to call it to avoid unnecessary arguments when there is ambiguity.

Some ppl prefer to call 'safety' when playing safe. But if you pot a ball with calling safety, your opponent will have options of 'play' and 'opp play'. That would put yourself at a disadvantage. The only benefit for calling safety is that shot won't be counted, so you will get better statics on shot percent.

The better options to play safe:
    a. make a call that would never go
    b. call 10 ball with a pocket with highest possibility to go

sorry just found i have made mistakes about the rules.

a 'miscall' also provides opponent options of 'play' and 'opp play', either u called it or not. so the first option i suggested (a. make a call that would never go) is useless and it will get same result as calling 'safety'.

In a 10-ball game, there is no merit of calling safety.

I don't think safety should be called as a sportsmanship.

In the first place, we should not need a safety call option.

    hey yama,

i agree with that no need to call safety.

    btw the first paragraph aforementioned

Generally we only call it when the shot is unobvious, but its better to call it to avoid unnecessary arguments when there is ambiguity.

is meant for shots not playing safe, such as bank/combo/kiss shots, and when there is possiblity for multi balls to be potted. some ppl think that should be ok if its obvious but that usually cause arguments in money games and tournaments.
thats what i think after watching the match REEL vs senny.

There is a call shot/call safe variation of 10ball where all missed pots are miscalls. And so you have to call safe if you don't intend to pot anything. Not played often though, has some downsides.

yes I fully agree with >>its better to call it to avoid unnecessary arguments when there is ambiguity.
